What the Klotho Gene Is and How It Works

In humans, the Klotho (KL) gene sits on chromosome 13 and encodes a protein of the same name. The Klotho protein — particularly the alpha-Klotho form — is produced mostly in the kidneys and in a brain region called the choroid plexus.
